Memorial Window

Dedication Service at Hurstville

Published: Thursday, March 27, 1947

A large congregation attended St. George's Church of England , Hurstville, last Sunday morning, when a memorial window was dedicated in the church to the memory of the late Rev. Dixon Hudson and Mrs. Hudson. The window, of stained glass, is a beautiful piece of work, and was presented by the family of the deceased minister. Rev. G. S. Richmond (Rector) conducted the service, many of the worshippers being friends of the late minister and his wife.

First Hurstville Troop of Boy Scouts and Cubs were in attendance, being in charge of Scoutmaster W. F. Dean-Jones. The colours were presented at the beginning of the service and restored to the standard bearers at the close of the service. The dedication service was conducted by Rev. J. R. Le-Huray (of Croydon), who, with the Rector and choir assembled beneath the window whilst the dedicatory prayer was offered and the hymn "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" was sung.

In his address Rev. Le-Huray referred to the faithful ministry of the ' Rev. Dixon Hudson during the 25 years he' had the oversight of the parish, and said he could be rightly termed a pioneer of the church. "Both the late minister and his wife were loved and highly respected in the church and throughout the district," the speaker said, "and the noble service rendered by them would ever live in the memories of those they ministered to." The speaker said it was a fitting tribute that a memorial window should be placed in the 'church I in which the late minister rendered such a devoted and successful ministry.

During the service the choir rendered the late minister's favourite anthem. "Send Out Thy Light." Miss Florence Porter presided at the organ.
